Revolutionize Your Smoothies
A nourishing and delicious recipe for gut health & vitality.
In our fast paced modern world, it can be hard to find the time to cook a proper meal. That’s why smoothies are often the go-to option when you are busy and in need of quick, convenient nutrition.
However, what if I told you that the traditional ice-packed smoothie might not be as beneficial for your health as you once thought?
In Ayurveda, the health and balance of your digestive system/gut is the key to living a life free from disease and illness.
One of the main gut disrupting factors in the modern diet is… ice!
According to Ayurvedic principles, the consumption of iced drinks, including ice-cold smoothies, can disrupt the delicate balance of your digestive fire (agni), leading to a cascade of health issues. These can range from minor discomfort like gas and bloating to more serious conditions such as leaky gut, lack of nutrient absorption, chronic inflammation, lowered immunity, and ama production (toxic undigested food).
Imagine dumping a cup of ice water on an open fire 🔥 What happens? Of course it will smother it. In a similar way, when you consume ice/cold beverages and foods, they smother your digestive fire. This results in your food not being properly digested which hinders the nutrient absorption you need to nourish your body.
If you’re addicted to your iced drinks, try to reduce them around your meal times. Focus on consuming them during the hottest part of the day and on their own. This will help ensure proper breakdown of your other foods and better nutrient absorption.
In your next smoothie, skip the ice and watch how your digestion transforms.
The recipe below is a nourishing and filling drink that supports your digestive health, microbiome, skin, brain health, and overall wellbeing.
It is best to soak the base, especially the nuts, overnight for at least 6-8 hours if possible to aid ease of digestion. In Ayurveda, nuts are said to be somewhat heavy, heating, and hard to digest, unless they are soaked. Soak the base ingredients in a small container in the refrigerator before you go to sleep at night, and you’ll have a simple quick breakfast in the morning.
